“Why do we have to prove”
the final verses are based on the prayer for serenity, words attributed to Reinhold Neibuhr.

uses Isaiah 12.2.

"At the bus stop"
The Society of Friends and Servants  of Christ the King teach a great deal  about “waiting on God.”

Based on “A Chant” published by  Scripture Union 1987 in Learning All Together. Chorus as in Ps. 136.
"Give thanks to God"
See Psalm 105 - telling the story.
"Four thousand years ago"
Using ideas from Hilarion of Kiev in  the 10th century, Han Suyin on Tiananmen 1990, and a South  African saying (verse 13). See, for  example, Psalm 78.
"God you spoke to me"
Compare psalm 139, but this is a  meditation on groups we belong to.
"My ancestor was"
Similar to my psalm used on a Tyne-  Tees TV Harvest service from  Gibside Chapel, Gateshead 1989.
"You have given the Queen"
As in several of the kingly Psalms,  especially Ps. 21. Some of the  phrases are from Canon Eric James.
"You are my strength"
Isaiah 12. 2 used in a Quiet Day by  Francis Dewar.
"Always and everywhere"
vv. 39-42 and 115-120 based on Iona Community worship. vv. 133-138 written for and used at  the National Garden Festival,  Gateshead.
"Across the River Thames"
Compare Psalm 125.
"Quietly we wait"
See psalms on the liturgy of the  Temple, like Psalms 66 and 99
"I am no longer my own"
John Wesley's famous phrase.
